Are you someone who shares your life with four-legged friends? If answered yes, you have to promise them to give them a healthy life free from all kinds of diseases. Canine companions usually make up a huge portion of your life and hence you would naturally wish to take care of them. Just like medications for humans, there are popular dog medications like tick and flea preventatives which are replete with harmful chemicals which may harm those little friends running around your house. Hence if you have them sitting beside you and depending on you, you should take effective steps to keep fleas at bay from your backyard. What are some of the natural ways of doing so? Check out some vita steps to take.
- Creating a flea collar for your pet
A flea collar is one of the greatest ways in which you can keep fleas at bay without having to keep re-applying anything topically. Dilute 2-4 drops of cedar or lavender oil with water and choose a bandana or your dog’s collar. A bandana is a better option as you can take it off his neck and he won’t smell too. Make that mixture and use an eye dropper to apply at least 5-10 drops of the mixture on the bandana and rub the fabric together. Once this is done, you can tie it to the neck of your dog. You need to reapply oil once a week and you will see how he can ward off flies on his own.
- Make a flea deterring drink for your pet
For making this you will need 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar. If you have a 40 pound dog, you need to add 1 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar to 1 quart of his drinking water. Experts recommend pet owners to use Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar as it can deter fleas in the best way and also enhance your pet’s skin.
- Create a flea repellent comb
When it comes to creating a natural flea repellent, you can make a comb for your dog. For making this, you need lemon and lemon contains limonene which is a chemical that repels and kills fleas and is also harmless to your pet as well. Boil a pot of water and squeeze lemon into it, turn off the heat and let it stay overnight. Dip your pet’s comb the next day into the liquid, make it cool enough and run it through his hair. You can even use a sponge as this too works well, especially for the short haired breeds. This will work as a flea repellent.
So, if you have pets running around your house and if you don’t want them to attract fleas in your backyard and bring them into your house, you can take the above mentioned natural and organic ways. Create natural repellents as they don’t cause any harm to your pet’s skin but lets you fulfill your wish.
